Freestanding Communities is an all-volunteer, Community-Based Health Outreach Organization established in New Orleans, Louisiana as a bridge to care for underserved members of the community. We embrace a strategy of empowering our communities at its roots in order to shape the healthy environments we want and deserve to live in. Our efforts include health literacy and a bridge to care, continuing health education and training for volunteers, as well as emergency preparation assistance during times of environmental disasters.
Our team of medical professionals, community health advocates, and volunteers are dedicated to removing barriers to care and meeting participants where they are physically, emotionally, and financially. Our mobile health literacy screenings are capable of delivering free preventative and health education clinics, point-of-care-screenings for conditions such as blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, delivering take home pregnancy tests, and more. Our purpose is to build stronger roots within the community and serve as an additional pathway to primary care with compassionate physicians and healthcare systems in the area.
Freestanding Communities - Community Health Advocate Volunteers receive training and skills certifications which will provide a direct impact in the neighborhoods we serve. Training programs include CPR and First Aid, Stop The Bleed training, Health and Wellness, hazard mitigation, and more. Whether we are assisting with a neighborhood clean up, delivering first aid training, or preparing for the hurricane season, our team of volunteers remain active in preparation well before and immediately after a natural disaster. Our goal is to minimize the impact felt by our neighbors and emergency responders alike.
